This simple, unisex tee looks great with a little bit of positive OR negative ease, depending on how you prefer your tees to fit. Optional bust darts allow you to fully customize shaping for a garment that fits you to a T!

The pattern is named for Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin, Astrophysicist and “inventive knitter.” As a doctoral student, she became the first person to truly understand the building blocks of the universe when she discovered what stars are made of. I think this sweater will become a building block in your wardrobe, and I certainly hope that it will be PAYNE-less to knit.

Sizing note: For the grey short-sleeved sweater (colorway: Zoot Soot), I made the 46.25in / 117.5cm sweater to fit my 44in / 112cm chest with a small amount of positive ease, and also worked the largest bust darts. For the mustard long-sleeved sweater (colorway: Eye of the Tiger), I made the 49in / 124.5cm, and omitted bust darts, for a more boxy look.

If you’re busty like me, but prefer a more fitted look, you can achieve this by knitting the size that most closely matches your overbust (rather than your bust), and incorporating the appropriately sized bust darts into your garment. Your overbust is the circumference of your chest above your breasts (if you have them), just under your arms.
