I’ve named it for Maria Agnesi, an Italian mathematician best known for her contributions to differential and integral calculus. Agnesi was a professor at the University of Bologna. She gives her name to a concept known as the “Witch of Agnesi,” which refers to a curve that can be expressed in an algebraic equation.
